About Me

My name is T. J. Rutherford.  While still in junior-high I worked for an unfinished furniture mart and it was during this time that I realized I enjoyed learning about woodworking and the fabrication of furniture.  I knew that hands-on craftsmanship would be my ticket.  I spent two years at the furniture mart learning all I could about the different varieties of woods, finishes and construction techniques used in creating different furniture pieces. I’ve spent the last three years working for a custom cabinet shop.  I do hands-on work in the constructing and installation of many styles of cabinetry for commercial stores.  We are the primary provider for the outfitting of Z-Gallery.

However I yearned for a challenge beyond assembly-line production.  It was at this time that I started my own business creating custom furniture and cabinetry.  As a sole proprietor I take pride in my work. I specialize in custom, high quality furniture and cabinetry.  I am committed to reviving quality of design and workmanship.  Every piece of furniture is handcrafted to ensure a long-lasting product that will be passed down from generation to generation.  Your grandchildren will enjoy them as much as you do.

I can reproduce a piece of furniture from a photo, drawing, or even a description.  I can also work with you to fabricate your own concept. Whether a custom design or a reproduction, communication is key.  By keeping in touch with you, my client, throughout the entire process ensures complete satisfaction of the final product.

Every photo you see on this site started out as a client's idea or concept for a piece they thought would fit perfectly with their decor.  We then met and sketched ideas until the client saw on paper what he or she had envisioned in his or her mind.  I then returned to the shop and continued the process until I had a working rendering which could be fabricated.  After this step I returned to the client with a quote, based upon type of wood and finish requested, and  a drawing where we further discussed concept to refine detail and cost.  When this was complete I returned with a final quote to get authorization to proceed.  The results of this process are what you see on this site.

My passion for interesting design drives me in a constant quest for innovation and style.  With each new commission, I continue to expand my own personal knowledge of custom furniture design, fabrication and finishes.
